human / nature
Jason Reno
human / nature by Jason Reno
Jason Reno’s exhibition human / nature chronicles mankind’s abstruse relationship with nature, inviting weather to be the thematic keynote.
His subject matter was gathered from universal weather symbols and objects synonymous with an untamed, weathered West.
Through a juxtaposition of tools embodying civilization and progress, such as the plumb bob or hammer, with weathered debris,
such as tumbleweed and charred wood, he emphasized humanity’s recurrent disparate desires to “tame the frontier” and to “leave no trace.”
Reno’s work has a tendency toward natural elements. Each piece resulted from an equation of choice, being the artist’s contribution,
and that of chance, being sporadic yet predictable natural elements. The resulting object was formed through a collaboration of natural
conditions and the artist, guiding the process.
